The mission of the Explorer Program is to teach young adults, between the ages of 16 to 21 years old, about the career field of Law Enforcement, while promoting leadership skills, integrity, respect, honor, and selfless service.
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office Explorer program provides a valuable learning environment in which Explorers gain practical experience and knowledge in the law enforcement career.
These are only some of the training that are offered to the Explorers. Some training can include an instructor from the specialty units within the Sheriff Office such as SWAT (special weapons and tactics), ASU (air support unit), EOT (emergency operations team), EDU (explosive disposal unit), and much more.
We meet every 1st, 3rd, and 5th (if there is one) Wednesday of each and month (excludes holidays & academy). The meeting location is 1121 W Gardner Ave, Spokane, WA 99260, Department of Emergency management.
Some meetings may also take place at the range, racetrack, hangar, etc. depending on the training that is being conducted for that day.
In addition, the Spokane County Sheriff's Office Explorer program also attends the Washington Law Enforcement Exploring Advisors (WLEEA) academy twice a year, which is held at the Yakima Training Center. This academy gathers agencies with explorer post from all over the state to conduct an intense week long training regarding the career of law enforcement. For more information on the academy, please visit the WLEEA website https://wleea.com/.
As an Explorer you will also be able to give back to the community by helping with events such as Holidays and Heroes, Lilac Parade, Bloomsday Run, and much more!
